Permissions

Kiroku asks for each permission only when you first use the feature that needs it. You can check all of them in Kiroku under Settings → Permissions.

My recording is black, or Kiroku says Screen Recording is off.

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording and turn on Kiroku. Then quit and reopen Kiroku: macOS only applies this permission when an app starts.

If Kiroku is already on and it still says off, select Kiroku in that list, remove it with the − button, turn it back on when Kiroku asks again, and reopen Kiroku.

There's no sound from my microphone.

Check that Microphone is on before you record, and that Kiroku is allowed in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. In the Studio, the level meter next to Microphone moves when Kiroku can hear you.

My Webcam, iPhone, or iPad doesn't appear.

Both use the Camera permission: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. To record an iPhone or iPad with Device, connect it with a cable, unlock it, and tap Trust if it asks.

Recording

In a Window recording, the cursor is in the wrong place.

Kiroku uses the window's position from the moment you start recording. If you move the window during the recording, the redrawn cursor drifts away from where you clicked. Keep the window still, or record the Screen or a Region instead.

Can I record my Mac's sound without the microphone?

Yes. System Audio and Microphone are separate. Turn on only the ones you want before you record.

Can I capture App Store screenshots from the iOS Simulator?

Not directly in the Mac App Store version. In Simulator, choose File → Save Screen (⌘S), then drag the screenshot into your App Store Screenshots set. Simulator screenshots are already the right size for their device.

Editing and export

Why is part of my video silent?

Sped-up parts export without sound, so a fast-forwarded stretch doesn't chirp. In a side-by-side video, sound comes only from the first recording, S1. If another recording runs longer, the rest plays silently.

My GIF looks small or choppy.

GIFs are limited to 960 pixels and 12 frames per second to keep the files a reasonable size. For full size and smooth motion, export an MP4.

Can I undo an edit I made yesterday?

Your edits are saved as instructions next to the original recording, which Kiroku never changes. Open the project and adjust or delete any block on the timeline. ⌘Z undoes your recent changes while the project is open.

Projects and files

Where are my recordings?

In ~/Movies/Kiroku, one .kiroku file per recording. In the Studio, open Projects and choose Show in Finder. A .kiroku file is a package: Control-click it and choose Show Package Contents to see the original video inside.

I moved a project to the Trash by mistake.

Open the Trash in the Dock, Control-click the project, and choose Put Back.

How do I move my projects to another Mac?

Copy the Kiroku folder from Movies to the same place on the other Mac. For screenshot sets, copy Kiroku Screenshots from Pictures.

Purchases and updates

How do I ask for a refund?

Apple handles App Store purchases. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

What changed in the latest version?

In Kiroku, open Settings → About and click Show Changelog. The Mac App Store updates Kiroku along with your other apps.

Will Kiroku run on my Mac?

Kiroku needs macOS 15.7 Sequoia or later. On macOS 26 Tahoe, it uses the new Liquid Glass design.
